

SST operational area in Alwar district is close to Industrial towns like Bhiwadi, Dharuhera and Gurgaon. SST promotes organic cultivation of vegetables and being close to national capital Delhi, we see a tremendous opportunity for vegetable growers to shift to organic cultivation as there is demand for chemical free produce in the big cities. SST promotes Vermicompost and green manuring to reduce the input cost for farmers. This provides an opportunity for promoting vegetable cultivation. There is growing demand for vegetable in these industries and local area.
SST promoted Mewat Agri Horti Producers Cooperative Society Ltd (MAHCS) that links the small producers with NDDB for marketing of the produce. Since its formation the association has supplied vegetables like muskmelon, watermelon and bottle guards etc worth Rs 87 lacs to NDDB.
System of Root Intensification (SRI) based wheat cultivation is also tested in One of the blocks in Alwar with amazing results. Wheat production in the field where SRI was taken seriously and 80% practices are followed there two three times of the average production received by the farmers. In many cases it reached up to 9 tons per ha.
